The leaves are changing, the air is cooler, and pumpkin spice everything is finally back in season! Fall is my favorite time of year. It's a time to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with family and friends, and start new traditions; like a new morning routine.
One of my favorite things to do on a fall morning is wake up early and take some time for myself before the day's craziness starts. Check out these tips if you're looking for ways to have a fantastic fall morning!
Wake up early and Enjoy the Peace
I love to start my days alone. That time in the morning, before the house stirs, I light my fall candle, and I can sit with my thoughts. If this sounds lovely to you, set your alarm 15 minutes early and try it out.
After some coffee, stretch, meditate, or sit outside and enjoy the sound of the leaves rustling in the breeze. You can even lace up your shoes, enjoy a brisk walk, and watch the sunrise.
Make a Healthy Breakfast For Sustained Energy Throughout the Day
Do you ever wonder what is considered a healthy breakfast? I used to think I was solid if I had whole grain toast with homemade jam, but that wasn't the case.
There has to be a good source of protein to feel our best and not get hungry right away after we experience our coffee crash. Consider eggs, greek yogurt, or even protein powder. Then you pair the protein with a healthy carb source such as fresh fruit, a slice of whole grain toast, or a small portion of oatmeal. Last you add a little bit of fat from almonds, peanut butter, walnuts, or avocado.
Not only will you feel amazing, but your body will also have the proper nutrition to run for 3-4 hours. And as a bonus, when we start our days caring for ourselves, scientists say we continue to make healthier choices throughout the day.
Spend Time Outside in Nature: Move Your Body and Get Your Mind Focused
Even if it's for a few minutes, being in nature helps center you and sets the tone for the rest of your day. Take a walk around the block, join a girlfriend for a morning stroll, or stretch for five minutes outside and enjoy what the Fall weather offers!
Take Time and Set Your Intention for the Day
Oh, intentions are enormous! Even when I stayed home to raise our babies, I would walk in the morning and set my intention for the day. It could have been to have more patience, but hey, it was an intention nonetheless.
As you sit quietly before the day begins, ask yourself, how do I want to feel today? Do you want to feel productive and relaxed, like you can take a deep breath?
Once you've decided how you want to feel, ask yourself, what is one thing I can do to support that desired feeling? If you want to feel productive, you could put your phone on focus mode, so you have fewer interruptions pulling you away from the task.
Make Sure You Get Quality Sleep
When you wake up in the morning, do you feel rested? If not, your bedtime may be the problem. Many downplay how crucial adequate sleep is to our health and stay up to late scrolling or watching a show. We tell ourselves, this is the only time I have to do what I want. Or this is how I relax. Deep down, we know those precious minutes missed sleeping will catch up and bite us in, you know what.
Your amazing fall mornings begin with getting to bet at a reasonable hour. Try this for a week and see how you feel. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier than your usual time, and stop looking at a screen at least 30 minutes before bed.
I guarantee you will feel like a new person in as little as seven days. Hello, beautiful fall mornings!
I hope these tips help you create your perfect routine and enjoy the season!
